We’ve all heard it before, how bad they are for the environment, how they are a waste of fossil fuels, how they are ruining the planet. Some of you maybe have obviously recognized how bad they are and now realize how relatively easy it is to get them out of your life. But for those of you who are still on the plastic bag fence, let’s look at a few facts...
- The average number of plastic bags consumed every minute around the world is roughly 1 million a minute.
- Plastic bags are photodegradable, That means that if they were to sit on the surface of a landfill, and soak up the suns rays for a couple of hundred years (some say around 500 until 1,000 years).
- Once you make a bag out of polyethylene (that’s the most common type of single use bag out there), it will never disappear, it’ll just break down into smaller bits, so basically, we will stuck in this planet with the plastics mountain around.
- Less than 1% of plastic bags are recycled, it costs more to recycle a bag than to produce a new one.
- A study in 1975, showed ocean going vessels together dumped 8 million pounds of plastic annually. The real reason that the world's landfill were not overflowing with plastic was because of most of it ended up in an ocean-fill.
- Plastic bags get blown around to our landfill, seas, lake, and rivers.
- Plastic bags have been found floating in north of Arctic ocean.
- Nearly 200 different species of sea life including whales, dolphins, seals, and turtles die after eat plastics which they mistake for food..
LETS STOP BEING A PART OF PROBLEM..
